Sponsor a Child:
Early childhood education has been critical to the Welfare Association’s program work since its early inception days in 1983. Early childhood education plays a most critical role in the development of individuals. Children who have been raised in an atmosphere that promotes thinking, creativity, and ingenuity will be the adults who will in their societies use their greatest assets. They will be resourceful when resources are scarcely available. They will lead at a time when many impediments stand in the way of a future worth living. They will create sustainable solutions to real-life problems.
Sponsor a Child also brings back hope to the lives of Palestinian children living in the most dire circumstances and most marginalized areas in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Palestinian Camps in Lebanon and the 48 Palestine Areas. The program provides children with quality education, psychological and sociological support, clothing, quality nutrition and covers operational and kindergarten costs.
WAYers from Kuwait raised funds for this project through screening the final world cup match and a movie about Palestinian businessmen initiatives to support National Palestinian Football Team
Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children:
Atfaluna is the main referral and resource center for most institutions, clinics, and hospitals in the Gaza Strip. It is the coordinating body of 21 member organizations in the West Bank and the Gaza strip working in the field of hearing impairment and loss. The 2010 Cycling4Gaza supported the establishment of outreach home-based early intervention program for deaf children (0-5 years of age). The project aims to contribute to the improvement of quality of life of 36 families who have hearing impaired and deaf children.
Gaza Community Mental Health Program (GCMP):
The Israeli offensive on Gaza in early 2009 had long-lasting psychological effects on Palestinians living in the region. The GCMP provides carefully designed psychosocial and recreational activities that help alleviate affected children’s psychological distress and assist them in coming and recovering from trauma. The 2010 Cycling4Gaza supported the establishment of a school-based counseling program for young children exposed to trauma. This project aims to contribute to improving the psychological environment for children in the Gaza Strip by establishing and running 6 school-based counseling units, providing specialized therapeutic treatment for 100 advanced mental health problem cases, and actively engaging 300 children and their families in summer camps and learning through leisure activities.
Mohammad is an eight- year old boy. He participated in the summer camp in eastern Gaza in Fatima El-Zahra kindergarten. Mohammed was always alone and withdrawn, refusing to interact with the kids during the camp’s activities, especially in group games. It was apparent that Mohammed’s psychological condition needed follow up. A professional from Gaza Community Mental Health Program observed his behavior, noticing that interactions with his fellow campers increased sometimes, but died down at other times. The professional worked with him systematically, beginning with helping him build self-confidence through involving him in individual games. In those individual sessions, she allowed him the opportunity to express himself in a safe environment. When he showed signs of improvement, she recommended that her colleagues slowly include him in group activities and help him adjust by helping him find his role in the group. Mohammad’s behavior improved dramatically and his mother commented on this improvement and hoped that camp can last much longer, and so did Mohammed.

All those activities support the children’s motor, sensory, emotional, intellectual, social and creative development.
